Located at the southernmost end of East China's Zhejiang province, Cangnan county borders the East China Sea in the east and southeast, Fuding city in Fujian province in the southwest, Taishun county in the west, as well as Pingyang and Wencheng counties in the north.
Cangnan covers a land area of 1,261.08 square kilometers and a sea area of 37,200 sq km and it has a 155-km coastline. It has been under jurisdiction of Pingyang county for a long period and was established as a county in 1981. The county got its name from its location, for being to the south of Yucang Mountain.
It is 81 kilometers from downtown Wenzhou and lies 432 km from Hangzhou, capital city of Zhejiang. National highway 104 runs through the county, from north to south.
With its subtropical maritime monsoon climate, Cangnan is warm in winter and cool in summer. It has abundant seafood and mineral products and attracts a lot of tourists. Its three great specialties – pomelo fruit, oranges and tea – are very popular and are said to have great development potential.
