The 2023 gross domestic product of Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, totaled 873.06 billion yuan ($121.31 billion), an uptick of 6.9 percent year-on-year, according to the government report delivered by acting mayor Zhang Wenjie during the fourth session of the 14th Wenzhou Municipal People's Congress on Jan 29.
The city's revenue in the general public budget was 62.27 billion yuan, up 8.5 percent. The per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents reached 77,973 yuan and 41,622 yuan, an increase of 6.3 percent and 8.2 percent, respectively, ranking first in the province in growth rate.
Wenzhou also showcased strength in its industrial sectors, with the total output value of traditional pillar industries surpassing 900 billion yuan, and that of emerging leading industries above designated size exceeding 650 billion yuan.
Moreover, the city made strides in social welfare, with the annual per capita minimum living security standard raised to 13,320 yuan. Additionally, the per capita disposable income of low-income farmers witnessed a notable uptick of 14 percent, marking the second-fastest growth rate in the province.
Looking ahead, the city outlined key targets for economic and social development in 2024. These include achieving a GDP growth rate of at least 6 percent, and aiming for a 6 percent increase in the per capita disposable income of urban residents and a 6.5 percent increase for rural residents. Additionally, efforts will be made to keep the rise in the consumer price index around 3 percent and to maintain a surveyed urban unemployment rate of less than 5 percent.
