On Jan 4, workers from Dong'ao village, Caocun town, Rui'an, a county-level city of Wenzhou, loaded 1.6 metric tons of Suomian noodles onto trucks bound for Italy after passing customs inspection.

Suomian noodles are a traditional product of Caocun town with a history spanning more than 200 years. They are finer and less salty than ordinary noodles, and are hung horizontally to dry, resembling the official hats of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) from a distance, hence the name Scholar Suomian noodles.

"Through the investigation, we found that the Suomian noodles has a large market in areas where overseas Chinese live," said an official of the Rui'an Office of Wenzhou Customs.

The production process for Caocun Suomian noodles has been standardized to ensure product quality.
