Hosany Sumayyah, a Mauritian surgeon who works at the Panhealth Medical Center in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, recently developed an interest in hair embroidery, a time-honored craft that is unique to Wenzhou.
She visited Meng Yongguo, a respected hair embroider and inheritor of Wenzhou hair embroidery, to explore how the tiny hair was turned into a meticulous work of art in an expert’s hands.
Sumayyah also strengthened her understanding of hair embroidery, including how it has developed from a monochrome style to multicolored to the current complementary color style.
"The craft shows me the artistic beauty of intricate traditional Chinese handiworks. They are unbelievable," Sumayyah said.
She also donated some hair to Meng to express her appreciation for the art.
This is the third episode of the I Love Wenzhou season 2 short video series. The previous ones that featured Ukrainian anchor Kristina experiencing time-honored Kunqu Opera in Yongjia county and Tajikistani social media influencer Akmal learning exploring movable-type printing in Rui'an city have become online sensations.
