Dimona is the third largest city in the Negev region of southern Israel. It was built in 1955 and has a population of 34,500 (as of 2019). In 2018, the city signed an agreement on infrastructure construction with the Israeli government, hoping to bring the population up to 120,000 in 10 to 15 years.
Its major industries include chemical engineering, high-tech industry and services. It also plays an important role in the development of Israel's solar energy industry, has a highly-developed education system, and is striving to develop cultural, educational and other projects.
