Wenzhou foreign trade reports double-digit growth in October

Wenzhou customs announced on Nov 23 that the city's foreign trade volume in October increased 13.4 percent year-on-year to 21.28 billion yuan ($3.34 billion).

Imports were up 21.4 percent year-on-year to reach 4.25 billion yuan in October, with the total value of imports in the January to October period reaching 192.62 billion yuan. Imports from ASEAN countries totaled 2.27 billion yuan during the 10-month-period, including 1.53 billion yuan for ferroalloys and other bulk commodities used in the manufacturing of stainless steel products, which has played a major role by accounting for 53.5 percent of the city's total imports.

Imports of mechanical and electrical products grew by 1.8 times to reach 290 billion yuan, while imports of new high-tech products had a four-fold increase to reach 180 billion yuan, driving the city's import growth by 5.4 and 4.1 percentage points respectively.

In addition, the city's export volume in October was 17.03 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.6 percent, ending four consecutve months of negative growth. Exports, particularly of glasses and new high-tech products, to the European countries, the United States, and Latin American countries had remarkable growth in October, reaching 3.52 billion yuan, 2.78 billion yuan, as well as 1.59 billion yuan respectively.
