When the cargo ship carrying containers of mill rods and auto parts left the Port of Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province on Nov 3, it marked the official opening of the second direct cargo route for foreign trade between Wenzhou and Manila, the capital of the Philippines, local media outlets reported.

Running twice a week, the new route takes only four days for cargo to be shipped between the two cities. It is expected to help expand business between Wenzhou, south and west Zhejiang, as well as north Fujian with Manila and also the Philippines' remote ports in Cebu, Cagayan, Davao, Subic, General City, and Batangas.

The first direct shipping route between Wenzhou and the Philippines was opened on May 1. Currently, the city has opened seven near-sea shipping routes to East Asian and Southeast Asian countries. It is striving to become a national transportation hub.
