Wenzhou city – located in East China's Zhejiang province – recently came in fourth among 11 Zhejiang cities, in a new digital life service index based on a long-term evaluation starting from December in 2019 and running to June this year.

The index was jointly developed by the Zhejiang E-commerce Promotion Center and the Ant Group Research Institute. It consists of three primary indices – a digital life infrastructure measure, a digital life services index and a new consumption index driven by new services. These indices also contain 14 secondary indices and dozens of tertiary indices.

According to the recently issued index report, Zhejiang's Wenzhou city scored 134.9 points, only 0.3 points lower than Jinhua city which took third spot. Hangzhou, capital of the province topped the list with a score of 251.8 points, followed by the city of Huzhou.

But on many secondary indices – such as digital finance, digital travel and digital culture and tourism – Wenzhou won a place among the top three.

As early as 2003, Zhejiang launched its campaign to build a Digital Zhejiang.

In June last year, the province reportedly took the lead in the country to put forward the concept of "new services for digital life".
