Wenzhou's tourism thrives during recent holiday

During the National Day holiday on Oct 1-7, 296 major scenic spots in Wenzhou, in East China's Zhejiang province, received a combined 9.24 million tourists – including repeat visits – up 23.92 percent year-on-year, according to statistics released by the Wenzhou Culture Broadcasting and Tourism Bureau.

The city's tourism revenue hit 152 million yuan ($23.6 million), up 6.31 percent year on year, while ticket sales reached 61.4 million yuan.

The top five A-level scenic spots in terms of tourist volumes were the Wuma Historical and Cultural Block, the Nanxi River Scenic and Historic Interest Area, the Wenzhou Nantang Cultural and Tourism Area, the Yandang Mountain Scenic and Historic Interest Area and Sanyang Wetland – with total visitors of 1.1 million, 830,400, 322,300, 255,100 and 182,600, respectively.

In Wenzhou, self-driving travel accounted for 98.8 percent of all tourist transport modes during the break, ranking it first among prefecture-level cities in the province. The proportion of public transportation – such as airplanes and train travel – was 0.7 percent of the total. Biking, hiking and other modes of travel accounted for the remaining 0.5 percent of tourism travel.

In addition, the number of local tourists in Wenzhou accounted for 65.51 percent of all tourists. The cities of Hangzhou, Jinhua, Taizhou, Ningbo and other places in Zhejiang were the main sources of tourists coming to Wenzhou – accounting for 5.7 percent, 2.2 percent, 2.1 percent and 2.0 percent of the total, respectively. Of tourists coming from other provinces, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Guangdong and Guizhou ranked in the top four, accounting for 5.4 percent, 4.9 percent, 3.5 percent and 1.6 percent of the total, respectively.
