The Wenzhou Dragon Boat Center in the Ouhai district – located in Wenzhou city in East China's Zhejiang province – will host the dragon boat finals for amateurs of China's 14th National Games on Sept 22-25.
It will be the first time Wenzhou hosts an event for the National Games. The dragon boat race is the largest single competition to be held outside of Northwest China's Shaanxi province – the main venue of the 14th National Games.
The Wenzhou Dragon Boat Center, widely regarded as the most professional dragon boat race venue in China, has been hard at it, preparing to welcome 40 teams from all over the country. There will be 20 men's dragon boat teams and 20 women's teams competing.
Volunteer training, security measures, logistics arrangements – along with ongoing efforts to prevent and control the novel coronavirus epidemic – will reportedly ensure that the event is safe and successful.
The dragon boat center covers a total land area of 1,052 mu (70.13 hectares). It is composed of a dragon boat facility, an Olympic sports center, a hotel, two residential communities, waterfront greenways and support roads.
Of these, the dragon boat sports facility covers 532 mu and involves a total investment of about 750 million yuan ($116.03 million), applied among other things to constructing water conservation and ancillary facilities.
