Chen Zhiyuan donated 3 million yuan ($463,200) in 2007 to establish the rural poor student aid fund – later renamed the Zhiyuan charitable aid fund – to support students from poor families studying in Wenzhou University to graduation.
In 2008, Chen invested 2 million yuan in Longhu Middle School in Ruian – a county-level city in Wenzhou, in East China's Zhejiang province – to set up a foundation to reward outstanding teachers and students.
In 2010, Chen established the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Wenzhou Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation, in a bid to arrange for outstanding Wenzhou teachers to study abroad every year.
In the same year, he invested nearly 1 million yuan for more than 40 leading teachers in Wenzhou – who had won provincial and municipal honorary titles – to visit the UAE and Egypt, so as to strengthen their studies and exchanges with local schools and education departments.
