Longquan Sword Museum opens in Lishui

The highly-anticipated Longquan Sword Museum was opened to the public in Longquan, a county-level city in Lishui, Zhejiang province, on Dec 12.

The museum displays the historical development and profound culture of Longquan sword as well as the craftsmanship that was included on China's list of national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.

The Longquan sword, named after its birthplace, has played a significant role in the story of Chinese and global weaponry. The history of Longquan sword dates back some 2,500 years.

The museum's exterior is uniquely designed to resemble two tempered swords being dipped into a cold spring, and the entrance shaped like a sword rack.

Covering a total area of 18,948 square meters, the museum's exhibition space spans about 6,265 square meters, with the western area primarily focused on exhibitions and the eastern area on operations and educational activities.

The exhibits combine physical artifacts with textual explanations and multimedia displays to vividly present the history of the Longquan sword and various thematic content. Visitors are transported to a world of legendary swords where they can almost hear the clinking blades.
