In Longgong township, Qingyuan county, Lishui, Zhejiang province, the harvest of bamboo shoots is in full swing.

At a processing base, over 30 workers are busy with the processing of approximately 20 metric tons of bamboo shoots every day. After being transformed into crispy, sweet-tasting products, these bamboo shoots are sold and distributed to a number of destinations, such as Yiwu and Wenzhou in Zhejiang.

An endless stream of farmers come to the processing base in Longgong to sell their fresh bamboo shoots. Villager Ye Mazhou mentioned that recently they were achieving harvests of over 500 kilograms daily, with the highest daily yield reaching 750 kg.

"The abundant rainfall this year has led to a vigorous growth of bamboo shoots," said Liu Xiaohua, head of a specialized cooperative of agricultural products in Longgong. Longgong's bamboo shoots begin to enter the market in February each year, continuing to sell until late April.

Liu added that the total trading volume of fresh bamboo shoots this year will exceed 1.5 million kg, increasing the income of farmers by about 3.2 million yuan ($441,703.07).

Longgong township, known as the birthplace of the bamboo industry in Qingyuan, boasts over 3,533.33 hectares of bamboo forests. In recent years, it has established a number of processing points and expanded applications for bamboo shoots, seeking to extend the industrial chain and enhance added value.
