Jinyun's electric bicycles gaining popularity overseas
Aventon electric bicycles from Jinyun county, Lishui, Zhejiang province, are gaining popularity in cities like New York and Seattle.
These bikes, produced by Zhejiang Jiahong Sports Equipment Company, offer pedal cycling as well as electric assistance and drive capabilities. Aventon, the company's self-owned brand, has increased its share to about 25 percent in the North American market.
"The export sales of our electric bicycles have seen a year-on-year growth of 15 percent from January to February, and new orders have been scheduled through May," said Zhang Jiahong, president of the company.
The dashboard of the bicycle can be connected to a mobile phone, showing not only driving information like speed and mileage, but also other data such as heart rate and heat consumption, making it suitable for daily commuting as well as mountain biking.
Zhang added, "Ramblas, our new electric mountain bike launched in late February, is widely favored by the North American market with its excellent performance in accelerating and climbing."
The company has developed multiple series of products, including commuting bicycles and folding bicycles, and opened over 1,000 brand stores in North America.
The intelligent short-distance transportation industry represented by electric bicycles has become one of the leading industries in Jinyun. The county is now home to eight automobile enterprises above the designated size and more than 70 related supporting enterprises.
In the first two months of the year, the export volume of the industry in Jinyun reached 640 million yuan ($88.55 million), a year-on-year increase of 79.3 percent.
