Recently, the South Zhejiang Tea Market, China's largest green tea trading market, located in Songyang county, Lishui, Zhejiang province, is experiencing a boom in tea trade, with the gathering of large numbers of tea farmers, traders, and live-streamers.

Since the market opened on Feb 18, a total of 62 metric tons of tea has been traded, with a transaction value exceeding 56 million yuan ($7.78 million).

At the early hour of 8 am on Mar 3, the market was already bustling with activity. With tea farmers and processors busy showcasing their products, traders from all over shuttled through stalls, selecting and bargaining.

Over 10,000 participants have engaged in transactions at the tea market since its opening. The market initially featured tea from Guizhou province and Sichuan province, but local and nearby teas have now also entered the market, with prices remaining relatively stable compared to last year.

"Currently, teas in the market are mainly of the Wuniuzao variety. Other varieties such as Longjing, white tea, and yellow tea still need about another half month before being widely available in the market," said Qin Jianyang, deputy director at the tea industry development center of the Songyang agriculture and rural affairs bureau.

"Next, with the overall warming of the weather, other varieties of spring tea will hit the market in large quantities. The market is expected to reach its peak in mid-March," added Qin.
