A woodworking workshop in Songyang – a county in Lishui city, in East China's Zhejiang province, owned by the 1992-born computer science graduate Ye Xiaoyun – has become something of a local sensation.

The studio's success is a testament to Ye's discovery of his deep passion for handmade wooden crafts, a journey begun four years ago.

"Capturing beautiful moments of life on wood with my own hands brings me immense satisfaction," he said.

In the summer of 2020, Ye established a workshop 13 kilometers away from town, crafting unique wooden pieces for nearly 10 hours a day. He's since won the hearts of buyers nationwide, with peak monthly sales exceeding 30,000 yuan ($4,207).

Despite previous uncertain earnings due to the remote location, February's surge in online sales prompted him to move the studio, called Lishiyi, to the Mingqing Streets in Songyang.

Diligently expanding his market reach, Ye recorded videos to showcase the creative process, amassing over 3 million views online and doubling sales in the first 10 months of this year from the previous year.

The studio offers both original and custom-made pieces, providing personalized services to turn clients' ideas into wooden artworks. The studio, recognized as a local intangible cultural heritage experience site, regularly hosts woodworking activities, which are greatly appreciated by the area's young enthusiasts.

"True passion is key to perfecting each piece," Ye said.
