Lishui wins top prize for water management
Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province was awarded the Golden Tripod of Dayu Award at the province's eco-environmental protection conference on Aug 8.
Considered the highest honor for water management in the province, the award is named after the legendary figure Dayu, or Yu the Great, who is revered for his achievements in flood control and irrigation by dredging rivers and lakes.
The award recognizes the outstanding performances of cities and counties in Zhejiang's "Five Water Treatment" campaign, which covers sewage treatment, flood prevention, drainage, water supply and water conservation.
This is the seventh consecutive year that Lishui has received the Dayu Award, and the first time it has won a Golden Tripod since the launch of the campaign in 2014.
Lishui has always adhered to the principle that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets and has spared no efforts in water management and ecological protection.
In 2022, the city made remarkable progress in comprehensively controlling the water environment and tackling water pollution. To date, the city has identified 6,400 problems related to water pollution and rectified 6,385 of them.
The city has also carried out water ecological restoration across the board. So far, 35.55 kilometers of ecological buffer zones along rivers and lakes have been restored.
