The Chinese women's swimming team consisting of Zhang Yufei, Li Bingjie, Liu Yaxin and Luo Youyang clinched the gold medal in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay at the Chengdu Universiade on Aug 1.
They set a new Universiade record with their timing of 3 minutes and 37.51 seconds.
This is not the first time that Liu Yaxin, a native of Longquan, a county-level city administered by Lishui in East China's Zhejiang province, has impressed at a major sporting event.
At the Fukuoka Swimming World Championships held in Japan last month, Liu secured a bronze medal in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay with a calm and composed performance in the last leg.
Born in 1999, Liu started learning how to swim when she was six years old. Her outstanding physical condition and swimming talent soon caught the attention of her coach.
In 2014, she won her first gold medal in the women's 200m backstroke at the National Swimming Championships. She has since gone on to excel at competitions like the National Games, the Asian Swimming Championships and the Asian Games.
Liu will represent China at the Hangzhou Asian Games in two months. She said she hopes to bring more glory to her country and her hometown.
