In Meiwan village – located in Yunhe county, in Lishui city, in East China's Lishui province – the world is quite literally a stage, with its cultural hall rocking and pulsating with exciting music every night.
That's because the village's culture art group is now busy rehearsing for upcoming shows.
Founded in 2006, it has 24 members who are all villagers that are passionate about art and culture. They've prepared various programs featuring local folk songs and dances.
During the Spring Festival this year, the art troupe toured several cultural halls in neighboring villages, bringing joy and warmth to the local people.
Yunhe county as a whole has been busy establishing cultural halls in different villages – aiming to provide a platform for the locals to express their talent and enrich their cultural lives.
In Pingyanggang village's cultural hall, 81-year-old Lan Guanhai became the leader of a folk song team. He's now taught more than 80 apprentices to sing traditional songs and perform them on stage during festivals.
In Hangting village, a folk music band led by Qiu Kongwen, who loves playing musical instruments, has also become a hit with the folks there.
According to a local official, the cultural halls have empowered people to become the promoters of their own cultural activities.
