A cabot's tragopan, or tragopan caboti, was discovered by bird photographer Zhu Weiwen in Yunhe county – administered by Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province – on May 8.

"I often take pictures of birds in the wild but this was the first time I have taken pictures of the cabot's tragopan, a first-class important wild animal under the State protection," Zhu said.

"I was really happy and lucky," he added. 

The cabot's tragopan is native to China. It mainly lives in subtropical montane evergreen, broad-leaved forest and in coniferous broad-leaved mixed forest, at 800-1,400 meters above sea level. 

The color of male cabot's tragopan is mainly chestnut brown on the back, yellow on the abdomen and brown-yellow on the lower body. The color of female's whole body is mainly brown, with some black, white and brown-yellow markings. 

The Switzerland-based IUCN – or International Union for Conservation of Nature – has classified the cabot's tragopan as a "vulnerable species".
