The city of Lishui – in East China's Zhejiang province – is currently positioning to transform itself into a premier medical treatment hub in the southwest of the region and it started the ball rolling by issuing its first policy for health care personnel in September last year.

In 2021, the city's health care system brought in 1,472 new hires in the field, including 169 master's degree students and seven PhD students.

While recruiting top-grade people, Lishui has also been focusing on training in recent years. Through independent assessments and hiring, more autonomy has been given to employing units – with 17 units recruiting 399 senior people in 2021.

Lishui is also increasingly getting talent to take part in academic research and development.

The Key Laboratory of Imaging Diagnosis and Minimally Invasive Research in Lishui last year engaged in 16 national and provincial-level research projects, accumulated research funding of nearly 10 million yuan ($1.58 million), published 62 research papers and cultivated six full-time PhDs, 10 PhD students, and three post-docs.
