The city of Lishui in East China's Zhejiang province was named a demonstration city for the development of Peaceful China at the Peaceful China Construction Commendation Conference held in Beijing on Dec 15.

China started the Peaceful China initiative in 2003 with a view to enhancing people's safety and social stability. Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the country has undertaken substantial measures to boost the development of a peaceful China – to ensure long-lasting peace and stability and to increase people's sense of fulfillment, happiness and security.

The 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for national social and economic development has made it clear that China will ensure development and security and continue the Peaceful China Initiative at a higher level in the next five years.

From 2017 to 2020, Lishui figured among the best in the provincial assessment of the peaceful development program. It has been actively cultivating and developing volunteer teams to inspire all walks of life to participate in the process.
