The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Schott Pharmaceutical Systems Zhejiang Plant Module II was held in Jinyun county – administered by Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province – on Dec 7.
A ceremony for the establishment of the Schott Pharmaceutical Systems Asia Headquarters was held at the same time.
Schott AG – the German producer of specialty glass and a major supplier of pharmaceuticals packaging – has reportedly been active in the county for a decade. Its operations range from a medicines packaging factory that was established there in 2011 to the company's new glass tube factory that was inaugurated in Jinyun on June 29 this year.
With Schott's advanced know-how, cutting-edge technologies and outstanding management, Jinyun is said to be set to become the largest manufacturing center for vaccine bottles and materials in China.
Abelardo Riveron, the head of Schott Pharmaceutical Systems Regional Operations Asia, attended the ceremony. The executive said that with the increasing demand of the Chinese market and the favorable investment environment in Jinyun, Schott had decided to continue to invest there.
According to Riveron the expansion project is scheduled to start construction in December, with a total investment of 380 million yuan ($ 59.81 million). On completion, the production capacity is expected to meet the growing demand for high-quality glass pharmaceuticals packaging in the Chinese market.
At the event, Jinyun and Schott also signed a framework agreement for a high-end medical glass packaging container (the module III) project.
