Qingyuan county in Lishui, Zhejiang province has been promoting cooperation between villages and State-owned farms in forestation since 1975 to improve efficiency and thus increase incomes for local farmers. Fruitful results have been yielded over the past few years.
In the 1970s, villages were stuck with poor technologies and low efficiency in forestation. To address these issues, the local government decided to cooperate with State-owned forest farms with a mode in which farmers offered land, while farms provided money and technologies.
"Villagers joining the project could get the dividend without paying for the operation costs," said an official with the county's forestry bureau.
Over the past half-century, the cooperation mode has not only created a large area of green mountains in Qingyuan, but also has brought wealth and skills to local farmers.
