With the establishment of a digital farm in early March, Daji town in Jingning She autonomous county, Lishui is seeking to upgrade its agriculture, especially the cultivation of wild rice stems, in a smarter way.

The JD digital farm, a project initiated by the Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com to help further modernize agriculture, enables farmers to monitor the conditions of weather, water, soil, and pests with internet technologies, making the whole progress more precise and intelligent.

The farm in Jingning is the first of its kind in East China’s Zhejiang province.

With an investment of 126 million yuan ($19.37 million) and spanning an area of over 13.3 hectares, the digital farm in the county will be committed to the cultivation of wild rice stems.

Currently, the plantation area for this vegetable surpasses 300 hectares in Daji town, with the annual sales value of wild rice stems in the region standing at more than 42 million yuan.

The digital farm is expected to improve the efficiency of the vegetable growing by applying cutting edge technologies like big data, blockchain, cloud computing, and the internet of things.

So far, some digital facilities have been built on the farm.
