Frank Lenzen, a foreign expert working for a glass company in Lishui, Zhejiang province, obtained his Chinese driving license on March 2 with the help of the local public security authority.
Lenzen is the technology director at the Lishui branch of SCHOTT, a German manufacturer of high-tech materials for specialty glass. He came to Lishui from Germany in 2019 and stayed in the city throughout 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a motorcycle enthusiast, Lenzen wanted to travel around by motorcycle but was unable to do without having a Chinese license.
Knowing his need, Lishui's public security bureau reported the situation to the provincial transport authority, asking for permission to treat special issues. Later, the bureau helped translate the exam questions into German to smooth the process for Lenzen to get a Chinese license.
The German native finally passed the exam on Feb 26 and obtained a combined license that allows him to drive both motorcycles and cars in China.
"It will be much more convenient for me to travel around the city," Lenzen told local media.
