The new Quzhou-Ningde Railway -- which runs from Quzhou city in East China's Zhejiang province to the coastal city of Ningde in China's southeastern Fujian province -- is set to open on Sept 27, rail officials recently announced.

The line links the southwest of Zhejiang province and the northeast of Fujian province. It starts from Quzhou, passes through Zhejiang's Lishui city, as well as Fujian's Nanping city, before arriving at the final destination of Ningde – a total distance of 379 kilometers.

Officials said the project is of great significance because it will consolidate the achievements made in poverty alleviation in the underdeveloped areas along the line, promote local tourism and economic development and improve the layout of the regional railway network.

They said the opening of the line will end a history of railway impassability in the region and open a new era of accelerated economic and social development in the three counties of Suichang, Songyang, and Qingyuan, as well as the county-level city of Longquan in Lishui.
