The Zhejiang Wuju Opera Art Research Institute (Zhejiang Wuju Opera Troupe) from Jinhua, Zhejiang province, participated in the Fish & Dragon Festival in Barbados and a special performance celebrating its diplomatic relation with China on Jan 20 local time.
Barbados has hosted the Fish & Dragon Festival for Chinese New Year for 11 years. The festival integrates the flying fish of Barbados and the Chinese dragon, representing a cultural fusion despite their physical distance.
The event has become a renowned celebration of Chinese New Year in Barbados and the wider Caribbean region, attracting thousands of locals each year.
The Zhejiang Wuju Opera Troupe's performances added vibrancy to the festival, drawing a large crowd and eliciting enthusiastic cheers. Huang Xinhua, charge d'affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Barbados, commended the troupe's exceptional skills and expressed gratitude for their portrayal of traditional Chinese culture through Wuju Opera.
The performances received accolades from the local Barbadian media, furthering mutual understanding and appreciation between the two nations.
