Over 2,000 metric tons of goods from Yiwu were loaded onto the Maltese cargo ship Occitan Pessac at Ningbo Zhoushan Port's Baiquan Port Area on Sept 14. This shipment marks the launch of the first direct shipping route from Zhejiang province to Guyana and Surinam.
Previously, goods from Yiwu to these South American countries had to be transshipped internationally, a process that took over 100 days. The new direct route reduces travel time to about 45 days, significantly lowering logistical and time costs for businesses.
Operating on a monthly schedule, this new route fills a crucial gap in maritime logistics between Zhejiang province and the Guyana-Surinam region. It provides Yiwu and surrounding areas with a more efficient transportation option, enhancing export capabilities. Additionally, it offers timely and efficient supply chain support for Chinese enterprises involved in infrastructure projects in Guyana and Surinam.
