Hengdian Railway Station in Dongyang, Jinhua, Zhejiang province, was recently adorned with Dongyang wood carvings to welcome its opening in the end of August.

Dongyang wood carving techniques are a national intangible cultural heritage with a history of over a thousand years.

On the first floor of the station, a magnificent wood carving featuring the landmarks of Dongyang has captured much attention. The work, created by the studio of Lu Guangzheng, a Chinese master of arts and crafts, is 18 meters long and 3.6 meters high.

It is divided into two scenes, with the left side showcasing the landscape along the Dongyang River from Dongbai Mountain to the west, featuring landmarks such as Dongxian Peak and Nansi Tower. The right side focuses on the Hengdian area, including Ming and Qing (1368-1912) palaces and ancient residences.

The artwork skillfully integrates elements like plum blossoms, pine trees, magnolias, cypresses, and maple trees, symbolizing progress, universal love, and resilience. The pastoral elements seamlessly blend the various landscapes together.

The station also features wood carvings depicting the Great Wall, mountains, rivers, and Dongyang's distinctive landscapes.

The Hangzhou–Wenzhou High-speed Railway will be put into operation soon, and Hengdian Railway Station, located along the railway, welcomes visitors to experience the charm of Dongyang wood carvings during their travel.
