China's visa-free policy and other measures have substantially boosted international exchanges. As flights to China return to pre-pandemic levels, the country has welcomed 12.09 million foreign visitors from January to May-end 2024, with 7.01 million utilizing the visa-free policy, according to the National Immigration Administration.

However, with foreigners' interest in visiting China growing, a problem has emerged. Many foreign visitors rely on bank cards and cash, while mobile payment are the prevalent payment method in China. This discrepancy has led to inconvenience for some foreigners during their visits.

To address the payment difficulties faced by foreigners in China, the People's Bank of China has released a payment guide, offering instructions to foreigners on how to use bank cards, mobile payments, cash, and e-CNY in China.

This move aims at improving payment experience for foreigners in China, addressing previous difficulties such as ID requirements for mobile payment apps, payment limits, and the low acceptance of foreign cards.
