Over 2,000 yellow-breasted buntings have recently been observed in Jinhua, Zhejiang province.

The globally critically endangered and nationally protected species came to Jinhua in flocks, spreading across areas such as Wucheng district, Jindong district, Yongkang, and Dongyang.

Ye Duo, a PhD at the Biodiversity Laboratory of Zhejiang Normal University, noted that the yellow-breasted bunting typically winters in provinces such as Guangdong, Hainan, and Fujian. In the spring, they migrate in groups along China's eastern coastal regions towards the north.

Ye added that Jinhua is a crucial migration pathway for these birds largely due to its numerous wheat fields and rapeseed fields, which indicates that the city's major grain-producing area is capable of supporting healthy agricultural ecosystems, attracting these precious birds for rest and sustenance.

The substantial presence of the birds reflects the enhanced ecological environment and healthy food chain in the city, according to Xie Chungang, a representative of the Jinhua Wildlife Conservation and Management Station.
