Yiwu in Zhejiang province handled 8.23 billion parcels in the first three quarters of this year, up 16.5 percent year-on-year, local media reported on Oct 30.
More than 30 million parcels are sent from Yiwu to various parts of the world every day due to the steady growth of wedding ceremonies and a tourism boom in the second half of the year.
He Hangbin, who is in charge of a ZTO express delivery outlet, said that his service point has established cooperative ties with more than 1,000 e-commerce enterprises, and has delivered 120 million parcels this year, a year-on-year increase of 20 percent.
In August of this year, the first all-cargo flight from Yiwu, operated by SF Airlines, took off from Yiwu Airport and flew to Ezhou Huahu Airport in Hubei province.
The cargo transported on the regular flight will primarily consist of e-commerce goods, clothing, and daily necessities. Initially, there are plans for one daily flight, and it is estimated that over 4,000 metric tons of cargo can be transported throughout the year.
The flights will greatly reduce the transportation time, with domestic logistics arriving up to six hours in advance and international cross-border e-commerce logistics arriving one day or more in advance, according to Ji Yumin, a staff member of Yiwu Airport.
