Lanxi, a county-level city in Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province, has in recent years been ramping up efforts to protect its ancient villages.

For example, the city has invested 15.27 million yuan ($2.13 million) to renovate 11 ancient villages and recently completed the renovations.

Authorities have also been exploring ways including adopting aerial imaging and 3D point cloud technologies to survey and draw historical buildings, steps that are key to collecting accurate data on protecting and preserving ancient villages.

In addition, authorities dispatched staff members to put up signs for these buildings to showcase their value and call on more people to join the efforts.

Protecting ancient villages is necessary to carry forward the outstanding traditional Chinese culture and advance the rural vitalization drive, said local authorities.

Lanxi, which has a history of nearly 1,400 years, is currently home to 21 national traditional ancient villages and 20 provincial traditional ancient villages.
