The Lu-Family Residence in Dongyang, a county-level city in Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province, is a major historical and cultural site under national-level protection.
The 500-mu (33.33 hectares) residence, which is renowned for its brick, stone, and wood carvings and colorful paintings, was built by Lu's ancestors, who settled there in the early Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279).
The residence boasts more than 40 classical gardens, academies, temples, and 26 memorial archways, and is the largest and most well-preserved ancient building complex from the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911) in the Jiangnan region, south of the Yangtze River.
The residence is open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm every day.
