The government in Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province held a fun run event to welcome the upcoming 19th Hangzhou Asian Games on May 4.

More than 100 staff members from the Jinhua Asian Games village and three hotels that are set to receive players from Asian countries attended the event.

Shao Lin, a 17-year-old boy from Lanxi, a county-level city in Jinhua, was the first to complete the 2-kilometer race around the Asian Games village.

The event is crucial in encouraging more people to participate in the Asian Games, said an official from the village.

The Asian Games will take place between Sept 23 and Oct 8 in Hangzhou and five other cities in Zhejiang province — Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jinhua, Shaoxing and Huzhou.

Jinhua will host the sepak takraw and soccer competitions.
