Zhejiang's Hengdian World Studios, located in Dongyang, a county-level city of Jinhua, launched its first sporting event of the year - the National Cup Chess and Poker Professional Masters tournament - on Feb 8.
Hengdian World Studios, which is famous for its film studios and tourist attractions, has been making great strides in developing a sports industry and capitalizing on its brand, industrial, and resource advantages. This effort has helped it become a prominent venue for hosting high-level sporting events.
In 2019, Hengdian Sports organized more than 30 sporting events, including football, basketball, ping pong, badminton, and archery. In 2021 and 2022, it hosted 20 and 15 provincial-level or higher-level events, respectively, despite challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hengdian Sports is aiming to expand the range of its sporting events by developing new and independent branded sporting events that cater to the needs of the surrounding communities.
To this end, Hengdian Sports is planning to establish over 40 sports events annually in the city within the next few years. It has already held a range of high-level sporting events, such as the Hengdian Marathon, a national sports tourism event attended by over 25,000 people, and the Provincial Games of Zhejiang Province, which is the highest-level competitive sport in the province.
