An exhibition of Dongyang bamboo weaving works was launched in the Woodcarving Town of Dongyang, a county-level city of Jinhua on Sept 28, displaying the charm of traditional farming culture.
The exhibition displays more than 40 groups of works such as bamboo brooms, rakes, dustpans, and buckets. The combination of Dongyang bamboo weaving with Chinese writing and paintings shows farming culture in a figurative and vivid way.
Dongyang has been famous for bamboo weaving for centuries. It became one of the first provincial intangible cultural heritage of Zhejiang in May 2005, and won the national title in 2008.
As a national intangible cultural heritage, Dongyang bamboo weaving enjoys equal popularity with Dongyang woodcarving.
Dongyang Woodcarving Town has long been committed to becoming a demonstration base for the integrated development of the arts and crafts industry based on Dongyang woodcarving and Dongyang bamboo weaving.
Lyu Xinmiao, chairman of the Dongyang Economic Development Zone Federation of Trade Unions, said that the exhibition is expected to attract many people to admire the beauty of folk craftsmanship and local culture, and thus to further promote the development of bamboo crafts and the bamboo industry in the city.
