A container loaded with light industrial goods in Yongkang, a county-level city administered by Jinhua, Zhejiang province, has been transported to the Middle East via the Jinhua-Wenzhou sea-rail combined transport system recently, signaling the start of normal operations for the newly opened line.

The Jinhua-Wenzhou sea-rail combined transport route has enabled Jinhua, a landlocked city, to be more directly connected to Wenzhou, a coastal city in Zhejiang. It is the second sea-rail combined transport route in Zhejiang, lowering the cost and shortening the time needed to transport goods.

In 2015, Zhejiang invested in and built the Yueqing Gulf railway, the extended line of the Jinhua-Wenzhou railway, which aimed to connect the urban area of Wenzhou with the Yueqing Gulf to make full use of its locational advantage.

With the help of the Yueqing Gulf railway, the throughput of Wenzhou port reached 510,000 twenty-foot equivalent units in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 26 percent and ranking among the top three major coastal hub ports in China for three consecutive quarters.

Moving forward, Zhejiang intends to extend the Jinhua-Taizhou railway, linking Wuyi county in the mountainous area with Mentou Port in the coastal area to perfect the regional railway network.
