Jinhua in East China's Zhejiang province launched a point redemption platform on Sept 22 through which people can receive gifts according to their total bonus points collected through green travel.

The platform, the first of its kind in the province, was launched in celebration of World Car-Free Day.

The service is available on a mini-program on WeChat, China's popular social media platform.

Users can earn points by traveling green, such as by taking bus or walking, and then redeem their points for bus or shared-bike e-tickets, Wujiang River boat tour tickets, attraction tickets, and Marriott Hotel coupons, among other things. Designers said the use of light rail and new energy vehicles are also encouraged and will be incorporated into the system in the future.

The platform will publish a ranking list based on accumulated points on a monthly basis and grant selected users special prizes at the end of each month and year.

Jinhua also launched 10 low-carbon travel cultural and tourism routes, including routes that promote busing, cycling, and hiking. Among them, the bus tour routes contain four special lines featuring scenic areas, parks, gourmet food, and historic revolutionary sites, respectively. People who travel on these four lines can receive double points, according to an operator.
