Yiwu's postal service sector's operating revenue – excluding Postal Savings Bank of China's direct business income – surged 83.2 percent to 3.17 billion yuan ($486.9 million) in the first two months of this year compared with the same period last year, according to local media reports.
Yiwu, a county-level city in East China's Zhejiang province, is home to the world's largest wholesale market for small commodities, such as socks, toys, and accesories.
The city's express delivery firms reportedly handled 1,108,344,000 parcels from January to February, up 154.6 percent from the previous year. Their operating revenue stood at 3 billion yuan during the period, nearly double that in the previous year.
Some 1,055,298,000 express delivery parcels were transported between Yiwu and elsewhere over the period, up 171.1 percent from the previous year.
