The latest figures released by the Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Statistics reveal that Jiaxing's permanent population reached 5.608 million by the end of 2024, marking an increase of 24,000 from the previous year.

This growth aligns with the broader trend in Zhejiang province, where the total population rose to 66.7 million, up by 430,000.

The data highlights a significant shift towards urban living in Jiaxing, with the urban population now accounting for 4.176 million, or 74.5 percent of the total population. This urbanization rate reflects a 1.3 percentage point increase from 2023, underscoring the city's ongoing transformation and development.

Despite the population increase, Jiaxing experienced a slight natural population decrease in 2024. The city recorded 36,000 births against 37,000 deaths, resulting in a natural decrease of 1,000 people.
