The Kaiping container ship embarked on a new journey from Zhapu Port Area of Jiaxing Port to Busan, South Korea on Oct 23. This new Jiaxing-Busan direct container route will take about 40 hours and operates weekly, providing 600 twenty-feet equivalent unit (TEU) container slots each trip.

Previously, cargo had to make a round trip between Ningbo and Zhapu before heading overseas, making the logistics process lengthy and complicated. The new route shortens the logistics cycle by at least a day, significantly boosting efficiency.

This route caters to the high demand for products like chemical fibers and non-woven fabrics in South Korea, making logistics more flexible and cost-effective for businesses. Shipping a 40-foot container is now around 1,000 yuan ($140.27) cheaper than before, saving about 300,000 yuan per ship.

Jiaxing Port, as the only seaport in northern Zhejiang and a national first-class open port, plays a pivotal role in the region's trade. The new route enhances Jiaxing Port's international influence and competitiveness.

The port already runs routes to Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand, and Indonesia, handling 2.4 million TEUs in the first three quarters of 2024 — a 10.12-percent increase.

Moving forward, Jiaxing Port plans to increase the frequency of trips based on demand and continuously develop new cargo sources, ensuring smooth operations and solidifying its position as a key logistics hub in the Yangtze River Delta.
