According to the Jiaxing agriculture and rural affairs bureau, Jiaxing has once again secured its position at the forefront of Zhejiang province in both grain sown area and output, marking the 18th consecutive year of this remarkable achievement. The city's grain sown area reached 2.32 million mu (154,666 hectares), and grain output exceeded harvested 1 million metric tons.

Jiaxing has been a key grain-producing area in southeastern China since ancient times. Rice cultivation in Jiaxing is believed to have begun as early as 7,000 years ago, during the Majiabang culture period.

Maintaining a grain area of over 2.2 million mu for several years, Jiaxing achieved 2021 and 2022 grain outputs of 977,900 and 981,900 tons, respectively.

Jiaxing has also focused on the application of advanced varieties, technologies, models and equipment. The city held the Jiaxing Seed Industry Vitalization Action Achievement Exhibition last October, showcasing new rice varieties and breeding techniques.

In 2021, Jiaxing also cooperated with COFCO Group to adopt world-leading processing equipment, intelligent control, and constant temperature storage for the rice industry.

Moreover, the city has continued to promote digital agriculture and improve the Zhongliangbao service platform for grain production. With over 60,000 registered users, the platform has issued more than 400 million yuan ($56.01 million) in subsidies for farmers and realized full-process digital traceability of grain production.
