Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province has made significant efforts to advance port construction this year. The cumulative investment in port development reached a record 2.81 billion yuan ($393.43 million) in the first 11 months, marking an impressive year-on-year growth of 125.47 percent, according to the Jiaxing municipal transportation bureau.
A major achievement for the city was the successful opening of a new entry channel, the Yuxingnao Channel, for Jiaxing Port, which has facilitated smoother navigation for vessels between Jiaxing Port and Ningbo-Zhoushan Port by reducing the travel distance by 130 kilometers.
The first phase of an inward channel dredging project at Jiaxing Port is set to commence in December. As of now, the cumulative investment in the Yuxingnao Channel and the Phase I dredging project stood at 92.5 million yuan.
Jiaxing is also actively advancing the construction of coastal berths that are capable of accommodating vessels with a capacity of 10,000 metric tons. Since the beginning of this year, construction has begun on six berths.
These developments underscore Jiaxing's commitment to becoming a regional maritime powerhouse and facilitating increased trade and navigation efficiency.
