Zhejiang University and the Zhejiang Institute of Ecological Civilization recently released the "Two Mountains" development index and the list of the top 100 green counties in 2023.

Pinghu, a county-level city of Jiaxing in Zhejiang province, ranked 30th on the green development list, which adheres to the philosophy that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", and it ranked 9th on the green prosperity index.

The "Two Mountains" development index evaluates the county-level construction and transformation of ecological civilization and sustainable development.

Pinghu has in recent years strengthened environmental protection and green development, aiming to create a national ecological civilization demonstration zone.

The city has diversified its low-carbon clean energy structure, with wind energy and solar energy as the main sources and biomass energy and hydrogen energy as supplements.

In addition, the city has promoted green agriculture and forestry and reduced carbon emissions.

It has also built 53,300 mu (3,553 hectares) of paddy fields with no direct discharge of water, reducing carbon emissions by about 11,000 metric tons per year. To improve the marine carbon fixation capacity, the city has carried out shoreline ecological restoration and marine aquaculture and release.
