The Night of the 2023 Chinese Literature Festival and the Mao Dun Literature Prize was held on Nov 19 at the Wuzhen Internet International Convention and Exhibition Center in Tongxiang, a county-level city of Jiaxing in Zhejiang province.

Many prominent writers, officials, and leaders in literature attended the event.

The Mao Dun Literature Prize, named after the renowned writer Mao Dun, was awarded in the writer's hometown of Wuzhen. It is a special tribute to great writers of the past and a celebration of a new era of literature.

This year, five works were selected for the prize from among Chinese novels published from 2019 to 2022. The five writers, born in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, saw the glory of the times worthy of being recorded in literature in ordinary people. The five works all reflect the value of reflecting on and understanding the times, exploring the world and representing the times in literature.

The Mao Dun Literature Prize is hosted by the China Writers Association and is awarded every four years. Since 1981, 53 works have received the award, contributing to the prosperity and development of literature.
