The 19th Asian Games are approaching, and a variety of flowers from Pinghu, a county-level city of Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province, are being transported to various parts of Hangzhou to adorn the city.

The base of Hongxin Horticulture in Sangqingang village, Xincang town, mainly grows flowers and plants for gardening. Increasing demand for flowers due to the approaching Asian Games has driven up the base's orders. In recent months, the base's sales have increased by more than 50 percent compared to previous years.

Pinghu plans to send more flowers and seedlings to Hangzhou for the Asian Games to make the city even more beautiful.

The city's flower industry is also booming online.

Livestreaming began gaining traction two years ago. The Pinghu Muyu Horticulture Farm began to do livestreams on Taobao to sell some unsalable succulent varieties at low prices, which attracted many customers.

With the increase in the number of livestreams on Taobao, customers are buying more and more. The farm has achieved diversified sales models from single physical wholesale to online retailing, which has made local villagers richer.

From January to May, the city's online retail sales were valued at 7.71 billion yuan ($1.06 billion), while retail sales of agricultural products totaled 228 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13 percent.
