Founded in 1993, Zhapu Economic Development Zone in Jiaxing covers an area of 55.8 square kilometers.
After nearly 20 years of development, the zone's economic strength has been significantly enhanced.
During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), its GDP increased at an annual rate of 7.6 percent and in 2020, the figure stood at 18.2 billion yuan ($2.82 billion).
During the same period, Zhapu Port's cargo and container handling capacity increased at the annual rates of 7.9 percent and 10.6 percent respectively. Last year, the port handled 66.16 million tons of cargo and 1.76 million twenty-feet equivalent units.
Currently, the zone is home to 90 foreign-invested companies, including three Global Fortune 500 companies. Its actual utilization of foreign capital has amounted to $170 million.
The zone focuses on the development of engineering plastics, synthetic rubber, silicon materials, synthetic chemical fibers, ethylene oxide, fine chemicals, high-performance special new materials, and hydrogen energy industries.
Industrial Parks:
Zhejiang Aerospace Military Civilian Integration Industrial Park: High-end equipment, electronic information, environment-friendly terminals, and smart emergency industries.
Hangzhou Bay Economic Park: Supporting service agencies for chemical new materials, including technological research and development, e-commerce, intermediary services, environmental protection engineering, as well as inspection and testing.
Comprehensive Logistics Park: 42 berths, including 34 10,000-ton berths.
