Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, aims to have 5G coverage in all its towns, key industrial parks, and main roads by the end of this year, according to a meeting convened by the local municipal government on April 15.

The city is scheduled to erect 7,586 5G base stations this year, including 1,535 stations by China Mobile, 2,051 by China Telecom and China Unicom, and 4,000 by China Tower.

By the end of May, the first 3,926 stations are expected to be erected.

In order to facilitate construction, office buildings of government agencies and public facilities such as scenic spots, commercial streets, schools, and hospitals, are open to 5G base station construction workers for free.

Jiaxing will also pilot the application of 5G technology in key areas such as industrial internet, smart medical care, smart communities, and smart transportation.

By the end of this year, such an application will be complete in the Nanhu Lake scenic spot and Qiyi Square, and a total of 30,000 companies in Jiaxing will have access to the cloud computing service.

Jiaxing, as the permanent site of the World Internet Conference, has long been on the cutting edge of 5G construction, and was one of the first four cities in Zhejiang to begin pursuing 5G.

In 2018, Wuzhen, a scenic town in Jiaxing, finished construction on the world's first 5G technology-enabled loop line using the 4.9GHZ frequency band, and in 2019, the Jiaxing branch of China Mobile built 5G technology-enabled workshops in collaboration with Xin Feng Ming Group Co Ltd.
